Jack and myself have so many fond memories of Grandma, it is hard to know where to begin.
She was a constant figure in our lives from birth and would jump at the opportunity to spend time with us. But, probably the memories that spring to mind the most, are the weekends & summer holidays we would spend with her at her bungalow.
She would spoil us with sweets , we would bake brownies & jam tarts & she would take us blackberry picking on the railway siding by her house. There is probably a lot to be said for our sweet tooth considering how many we ate with her, all the while being told we must not 'spoil our tea'!
We would go out on day trips & spend lots of time on the beach at WSM or on the pier with Grandma helping us to collect as many tokens as we could from the arcade machines. I think we managed to collect about 150 tokens which proved just enough to claim a pencil!
We would also go to Brean , Burnham on `sea , Clevedon & Cheddar to explore the caves. Grandma even too us to the famous and very 'child friendly' Hinkley Point B Power station!
We have lost track of how many hours we spent going to the parks at Vassells or Bath and raiding Grandmas glovebox in the car to eat all of her mints on the journey to and fro!
Our evening were spent jumping between cartoons on her TV, playing the vinyl of Petula Clarks 'Downtown' on her record player or pushing our faces against the glass of her tropical fishtank.
I remember tending to a box of snails that Grandma let me keep in an ice cream tub in her shed. I cannot imagine she was too keen on that, but it showed that she would do anything to keep us happy!
When bedtime came around all three of us would cosy up in Grandma's big bed, Grandma in the middle, reading to us from a book or ad libbing a story for us until we fell asleep.
The love & support she showed us has continued into our adult lives and I do not believe either of us would be who or where we are in life if it had not been for her overwhelming love, support and kindness.
I hope we have been able to show her as much love and appreciation in return.
We miss you Grandma - sleep tight 💚
